Oral B Pro 2000 review: Pricey for its features

Oral-B is a well-known brand when it comes to oral hygiene products. The company’s portfolio includes everything from toothpastes to electric toothbrushes. Recently, Oral-B launched its Pro 2000 rechargeable electric toothbrush in India. Priced at a hefty Rs 5,800, the device is claimed to offer a better overall oral cleaning experience and aid in effective removal of dental plaque. But is that really the case?

We spent some days using the Oral-B Pro 2000 and here’s the rest of our review.

Design

Oral-B Pro 2000 is a lightweight and easy-to-handle electric toothbrush. It comes with a plastic and rubber body that provides a good grip while brushing. The head is removable and thus, can be replaced from time to time. The front has a power button which can also be used for changing the modes while brushing the teeth. Along with the power button, the front has an LED indicator which blinks when the toothbrush is being charged. The top consists a metallic pin which holds the head in place, while the charging slot is at the bottom.

The toothbrush comes with its own charger and Oral-B offers one head with the toothbrush, consisting of criss-cross bristles. The bristles can oscillate, rotate and pulsate. The toothbrush head is round in shape and is designed to reach areas that are difficult to get to.
All-in-all, we found the Pro 2000 to be an impressively-designed electric toothbrush that’s also easy to use.

Performance

Oral-B Pro 2000 has a pretty good oral cleaning performance. The toothbrush comes with two cleaning modes – Daily cleaning and Gum care cleaning. The former has standard functionality in which the head (and thus, the bristles) oscillates, rotates and pulsates in order to remove plaque. The company claims that this is a much better approach than manual cleaning and can be helpful for people with swollen gums and sensitive teeth. In our testing, we found the bristles to be quite soft. They don’t cause any irritation or pain either.
The Pro 2000 has a visible pressure sensor which lights up whenever the user applies extra pressure on the teeth while brushing. Along with this, it has an on-hand time timer which buzzes every 30 seconds to let the user know that it’s time to move on to the next quadrant of the mouth. The toothbrush also alerts when the dentist-recommended brushing time of 2 minutes is over.

The electric toothbrush also offers a floss-action feature that helps it penetrate between the teeth and clean hard-to-reach areas of the mouth.

Coming to the battery life of Oral-B Pro 2000, we found it to be quite good. In our testing, the toothbrush’ battery lasted around 10 days on a single charge with regular usage.

Verdict

With a price tag of Rs 5,800, the Oral-B Pro 2000 is definitely expensive. However, it has all the important features but there are other options available in the market, which offers similar features at a lesser price segment. If you want an effective solution that can help you achieve better oral health and are willing to spend more then, go for the Oral-B Pro 2000.
